CUSHING HOPE SQUAD
2025-2026
I first heard about Hope Squad through a family member who lived in Texas and she knew of my passion for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Help and told me to look into it to see if it is something I could bring into my school and district! After meetings with Hope Squad Representatives and my schools principal and vice principal I was able to bring the information I had collected to my Superintendent and talk about the importance of peer-to-peer suicide prevention and how this association would be helpful in our school system.
What is Hope Squad?
A Hope Squad is a group of students nominated by their peers. My district is lucky to have a set class where we are able to meet everyday with our trained advisors to learn about mental health. The Hope Squad members are trained to note signs of distress and reach out, connecting peers to help and hope. Hope Squads educate the entire student body to reduce stigma and change their school’s culture.
Even though this is the first year with Cushing Hope Squad, we are incredibly proud of the impact we have had within our school and community. From small encouraging notes and handing out flowers, to a school wide Kindness Week we were able to put on we have been able to make a long lasting impact and that is something I am so proud of!
Hope Squad is not only there for Suicide Prevention but we also love to check in and give encouragement to those who may need it. CHS Hope Squad also had the opportunity back in September to connect with other Hope Squad members from around Oklahoma to learn more about Suicide Prevention which really opened my eyes even further to the impact Suicide Prevention can have.
